Örebro County Museum - olm.se

Development, Product Design, UX

Örebro County Museum is one of the oldest regional museums in Sweden with its roots tracing back to the very first antiquities association founded in 1856. They produce exhibitions that are located on several locations throughout Örebro County. The museum offers guided tours, children’s programs, workshops, lectures, and much more.

The museum should feel like a living room for all county residents — a place that’s relevant, inviting, and welcoming. The challenge is bringing that warmth to the web while balancing experience with accessibility. The identity needs to convey credibility and knowledge with clarity, but also spark curiosity and excitement. The goal is to move away from the perception of being square and boring, and help people understand that cultural heritage matters — it’s not just old dusty objects sitting in glass cabinets.

We started the project by analysing the needs of the personas that were using their website – museum visitors, teachers. We had several workshops with the client, the people actually working with the museum and got great input considering that they know so much about their needs. I created user journeys, a new sitemap that showcased an updated information structure, wireframes and developed a clickable prototype.

After that we conducted interviews and observations with users where they were given a certain task and we observed their interaction with the prototype. After these sessions, the users were interviewed about their experience. the users were primary based on the main audience of the website, different age groups, locals, visitors, teachers etc.
